Tangled Dreams: A Textile Sculpture Adventure
Led during my artist residency in Huế, Vietnam, Tangled Dreams: A Moving Textile Sculpture | Một cuộc phiêu lưu khám phá giấc mơ rối rắm & cùng nhau điêu khắc trên vải was a collaboration with the children of Trúc Lâm village and AirHue residents in January 2025. Inspired by the landscape and playful interactions with children, the workshop unfolded organically.
On January 26, just before Tết (Lunar New Year), participants transformed AirHue’s garden into a collective dreamscape. Each child created an ornament inspired by the natural world, wrote future dreams, and passed yarn hand to hand—sharing aloud as they wove their hopes together.

Ngày đến AirHue, Thảo quyết định tạm ngưng kế hoạch nghiên cứu đã đề ra ban đầu và cho phép mình không gian tương tác với cảnh sắc và con người ở làng Trúc Lâm. Để ghi lại dấu ấn của những kết giao này, Thảo đã tổ chức workshop Những Giấc Mơ Rối Rắm: Một Cuộc Phiêu Lưu Sắp Đặt Với Vải cùng các bạn nhỏ trong làng."

Join artist Karen Thảo La on a creative journey through Air Hue’s garden! Let the music guide you as you explore nature, cut out dream-inspired shapes, and write down your hopes and visions. Together, we’ll connect our creations with ribbons and yarn, transforming the trees into a collective dreamscape that sways with imagination and wonder.
This workshop is designed for ages 5-10, but all ages are welcome to join the fun! Each participant will leave with a dream journal and can return to visit the tree whenever they wish, continuing the adventure!
